O álbum, sucessor de “St. Anger” (2003), foi produzido pelo experiente Rick Rubin (Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers e System of a Down). “Death Magnetic” será o primeiro disco do grupo com o baixista Robert Trujillo (ex-Infectious Grooves e Suicidal Tendencies) participando de todo o processo criativo.
